Abstract
The Qur'an and the 'Itrat (Progeny) are the two legacies of the Prophet (SAWA), inseparable from one another. The cultural cultivation undertaken by these two weighty legacies (Thaqalayn) brought about the transformation of Jāhilī (pre-Islamic ignorant) culture into Islamic culture during the Prophetic era, exemplifying the intrinsic connection between the Qur'an and the Prophet's Household in effecting this cultural shift. The present article seeks to address the fundamental question of how the cultural transformation of pre-Islamic society with regard to monotheism was accomplished through the Holy Qur'an, and how it was subsequently revived through the tradition of Imam Husayn (AS). In terms of approach, this study is descriptive-analytical, and with respect to data collection, it adopts a library-based method. Accordingly, through an examination of monotheism in the Holy Qur'an, the transformation from Jāhilī culture to a monotheistic culture is analyzed on the basis of methods such as argumentation, the stimulation of reflective thought, attention to innate (fitri) monotheism, and the arousal of a spirit of worship and monotheistic libertarianism in human beings. Subsequently, after enumerating the manifestations of Jāhilī culture in matters such as negligence in prayer, the manufacture and sale of idols, determinism (jabr), the obscuring of Islam's radiance, the threat to monotheistic libertarianism, and the promotion of the separation of religion from politics (secularism), the aforementioned methods are traced through historical evidence in the Husayni tradition, thereby substantiating the revivalist role of Imam Husayn, the Master of the Martyrs (AS).
